Use stealth to cross the Yiga Clan Hideout, distract guards with Mighty Bananas when needed, then defeat Master Kohga and take the Thunder Helm back to Riju in Gerudo Town. You do not need to clear every guard to reach the objective.
How to get through the Yiga Clan Hideout
Stealth is the recommended approach. Avoid turning the hideout into a series of fights: draw a guard away from a doorway or passage, slip past while the route is open, and use cover to break line of sight.
Distract a guard with a Mighty Banana
- Find a guard whose patrol or position blocks the route you want to use.
- Throw a Mighty Banana where the guard can see it, but away from the passage you intend to cross.
- When the guard moves toward the fruit, go around using cover and continue through the opening.
Press down on the directional pad when throwing to send the banana farther. Treat this as an optional distraction, not a mandatory step; the route can also be opened by briefly letting a guard notice you and then retreating behind cover so the guard moves away from their post.
Use cover if a guard notices you
Briefly show yourself to attract a guard, then withdraw behind cover. Once the guard leaves their position to investigate, use the space they left to move onward. Watch where the guard is looking rather than trying to force a fight.

Prepare for the Master Kohga fight
The hideout’s stealth section leads to an arena encounter with Master Kohga. The available guidance does not establish a required weapon, armor set, food, or minimum number of hearts. Bring weapons you are comfortable using and keep track of your objective in the Adventure Log; Nintendo describes the Sheikah Slate map as a way to guide Link and identify points of interest (Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild page).
How to beat Master Kohga
Kohga changes his attack as the fight progresses. After the first portion of his health is removed, he warps over the hole in the arena and summons two boulders that rotate around him before he throws them at Link. Keep watching his position and the boulders’ movement, and react to the attack cue rather than relying on a single timing trick. The phase change is described in Piggyback’s Breath of the Wild guide.

Take the Thunder Helm back to Riju
After the encounter, open the chest that appears to collect the Thunder Helm. The hideout objective is not complete simply because Kohga is defeated: return the helm to Riju in Gerudo Town to continue the Thunder Helm objective.

This walkthrough concerns The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, not another Zelda game that may also feature a Yiga hideout. Nintendo lists the game for Wii U and Nintendo Switch, and its current product page also describes a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition released June 5, 2025, playable only on Switch 2. Check the seller listing for the system and edition before buying. Nintendo lists file sizes of 14.4 GB for the Switch game and 24.1 GB for the Switch 2 Edition; neither figure is a requirement for the hideout itself (Nintendo product page).

Nintendo’s features page notes more than 100 Shrines of Trials and over 180 different weapons, but those broader game totals do not imply any specific preparation requirement for this section (Nintendo game features). An Explorer’s Guide is an optional broader reference, not a requirement to complete the hideout.
