Choose ARMORED CORE VI: FIRES OF RUBICON if you want the newer entry in a long-running mech-action series and the widest platform selection, including PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Neither is a universal winner: they emphasize different kinds of mech play.
The quick verdict
These games are best understood as two different interpretations of the mecha-action formula rather than direct substitutes. M∀RS is an enhanced version of ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER, presented as high-speed third-person combat. Its core pitch is immediate: pilot Jehuty, switch between close and long range, and use sub-weapons while moving through a cinematic campaign. Konami’s remaster adds native 4K presentation, optional VR content and several features intended to make the game easier to learn, including a Very Easy difficulty, training modules and a mini-map (Konami’s announcement; European product page).

Armored Core VI is a new installment in FromSoftware’s long-running series. Bandai Namco and Steam describe it as high-octane mech action built from the series’ mech-game knowledge and FromSoftware’s recent action-game development (official site; Steam page). It launched on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, so it is the practical choice when your friends, console or preferred storefront require those platforms.

What each game actually is
ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS
M∀RS is a remastered version of ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER. Konami’s description centers on “exhilarating high-speed mech-action combat all in third-person 4K,” a publisher characterization rather than an independent performance test (Konami). The player controls Jehuty and combines melee attacks, ranged attacks and sub-weapons. That combination makes the game’s identity easy to state: it is an action-focused third-person campaign in which movement and weapon switching are part of the spectacle.
#1 Best Overall
- Thrilling Boss Battles – Deploy a wide variety of offensive and defensive tactics at close and long range to take down powerful enemy bosses.
- Dynamic, Omni-directional Battles – Pilot your mech in fast-paced, omni-directional battles, taking advantage of your mech’s mobility both on land and in the air to ensure victory.
- Customise Your Mech to Your Playstyle – Explore a breadth of playstyles and combat styles by customising your mech’s buildout between missions. Pick and equip your preferred parts via a robust customisation system that can dramatically alter your play strategy, manoeuvrability and battle style as the action intensifies.
The M∀RS edition adds more than a resolution bump. Konami lists native 4K support, a VR cockpit perspective and extra VR-oriented material including hangar, model-viewer and cinematic-theater content (product page). These are optional features for compatible hardware. You do not need a VR headset to play the main game, and the existence of a Very Easy mode does not establish that every encounter is simple.
ARMORED CORE VI: FIRES OF RUBICON
Armored Core VI is a new entry in the Armored Core series, not a remaster. Bandai Namco calls it high-octane mech action, while Steam presents it as a new action game informed by the series’ mech-game tradition and FromSoftware’s recent action-game development (Bandai Namco; Steam). Those descriptions establish its broad identity but do not, by themselves, establish the exact depth of customization, mission structure, campaign length or difficulty curve. If any of those details determine your purchase, consult the current official game information and platform listing rather than assuming the broad marketing language answers them.
The series status matters when choosing between the two. M∀RS gives you a remastered version of a specific older game; Armored Core VI gives you the current numbered installment available on a larger set of platforms. A reader interested in the newest release in the series has a clear answer even before comparing combat preferences.

Combat and presentation: speed versus the broader Armored Core format
Why M∀RS feels immediately action-led
M∀RS puts the camera behind the mech and makes the attack vocabulary explicit: melee, ranged and sub-weapon attacks. This is useful if you want a game whose appeal is readable in a single sentence—close the distance, strike, fire, and change tools while Jehuty moves at high speed. The third-person presentation also makes the mech itself and the surrounding action visible in a conventional action-game frame.
Rank #2
- A new action experience from the makers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring
- Assemble and pilot your own mech
- 3D manoeuvrability to move freely through three-dimensional fast-paced missions
- Take on difficult challenges and overwhelm your enemies
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions. DLC might not work properly unless proper region is selected.
Konami’s wording is promotional, so it should not be treated as a laboratory measurement of frame rate, resolution in every mode or overall difficulty. It does, however, accurately identify the intended presentation: fast third-person mech combat rather than a cockpit-only simulation.
What the available Armored Core VI description does—and does not—tell you
Armored Core VI’s official descriptions establish a high-energy mech-action game and its connection to the Armored Core lineage. They do not provide, in the material available for this comparison, a verified numeric account of mission count, playtime, customization slots, difficulty, performance modes or multiplayer scope. Avoid choosing it on an assumed statistic. Choose it because you want the newer Armored Core entry and because its supported platform range fits your setup; investigate a specific mechanic on the official listing if that mechanic is decisive.

VR and remaster features: when M∀RS is the better fit
If you own compatible PlayStation VR hardware and specifically want to sit inside a mech cockpit, M∀RS is the only one of these two with an official VR feature set documented in the cited material. Konami describes cockpit play and additional content that lets you visit the hangar, examine models and watch cinematics in VR (launch announcement; product page).

That distinction needs two qualifications. First, VR is optional: the game remains a conventional third-person title without a headset. Second, “native 4K” describes the remaster’s support as presented by Konami, not a promise that every platform, display mode or scene runs at a particular frame rate. Check the current system requirements and store description for the hardware you own.
Rank #3
- Turn on and burn all
Armored Core VI may still be the better purchase for a player who has no VR hardware, because M∀RS’s VR material then has no value in the decision. In that case, compare the games on their basic action identity and platform access instead of paying a premium—if one exists in your region—for a feature you will not use.
Accessibility and onboarding
Konami’s M∀RS launch materials provide concrete onboarding options: a Very Easy difficulty, training modules, a mini-map and an optional Pro Mode controller setup (announcement). These options can reduce friction for a player learning the controls or returning to a game originally released years earlier.
They should not be translated into an unsupported promise that M∀RS is easy overall. The cited material does not quantify enemy difficulty, checkpointing, accessibility beyond those listed settings or the amount of assistance each option provides. Treat the features as tools you can use, not as a guarantee about every encounter.
The supplied official descriptions do not list equivalent Armored Core VI onboarding or accessibility settings. That is an evidence limitation, not proof that no such settings exist. Check the current in-game and platform information if a particular control, subtitle, color, remapping or difficulty option is essential to you.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which game should you choose?
Choose M∀RS when these statements describe you
- You want a focused third-person action presentation rather than an unspecified set of broader series systems.
- Switching among melee, ranged and sub-weapon attacks is central to the fantasy you want.
- You value a remaster with native 4K support.
- You own compatible VR hardware and want optional cockpit, hangar, model-viewer or cinematic-theater content.
- You appreciate explicit onboarding tools such as Very Easy, training modules and a mini-map.
- Your available system is a PlayStation 4 or PC and the current regional listing confirms access.
Choose Armored Core VI when these statements describe you
- You want the newer game rather than a remastered version of an earlier title.
- You specifically want the Armored Core series’ current numbered entry.
- You need Xbox support, PlayStation 5 support or a cross-generation console option in addition to PC.
- You prefer to investigate the series’ detailed systems directly and are comfortable that the broad official descriptions do not answer every question about difficulty, length or customization.
- Your buying decision is driven by current platform availability rather than VR or remaster features.
A practical decision path
- Start with your hardware. If you are on Xbox, Armored Core VI is the supported choice among these two based on the listed platforms. If you are on PlayStation 4 or PC, both remain candidates; on PlayStation 5, Armored Core VI is the title explicitly listed for that console.
- Decide whether VR matters. If optional cockpit VR and related viewing content are a major reason to buy, select M∀RS, then confirm headset and regional support. If VR is irrelevant, remove that feature from the comparison.
- Choose the presentation you want. Select M∀RS for the documented high-speed third-person structure with melee, ranged and sub-weapons. Select Armored Core VI if your priority is the newer Armored Core installment.
- Check your tolerance for unknowns. The cited material gives M∀RS concrete training and difficulty options. It does not establish that the entire game is easy. The cited Armored Core VI descriptions leave several detailed mechanics unstated, so verify any specific requirement before purchase.
- Verify the live listing. Confirm price, stock, edition, language options, download requirements and hardware specifications in your country. The historical launch dates and platform announcements do not guarantee that a particular physical or digital version is currently sold.
Common mistakes when comparing them
Treating “newer” as “better for everyone”
Armored Core VI’s 2023 release makes it newer than the 2018 M∀RS remaster, but recency does not answer whether you want M∀RS’s third-person speed, VR material and remaster presentation. Newer is a useful filter only when it matches your priorities.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAssuming VR is mandatory in M∀RS
Konami presents VR as additional content. The main choice is still between two mech-action games, not between a VR title and a non-VR title. Buy M∀RS for its standard third-person combat even if you never connect a headset.
Best Value
Inferring unsupported specifications
Neither the publisher descriptions cited here supplies a reliable, comparable number for campaign length, mission count, customization depth, frame rate or current price. Do not fill those gaps with guesses or with figures from an unrelated edition. Use the live platform page when one of those details determines your purchase.
Confusing launch history with current availability
M∀RS’s September 2018 announcements document when and where it launched, including the limited Americas physical release described by Konami. They do not prove that a disc remains in stock. Armored Core VI’s 2023 launch announcement likewise does not establish today’s discount or edition inventory.
Final recommendation
For a reader who wants one clear starting point, pick M∀RS for the most specifically documented action presentation: fast third-person combat, three stated attack categories, native 4K remaster treatment, optional VR material and explicit beginner aids. Pick Armored Core VI when “the current Armored Core game” and broad PlayStation, Xbox and PC support matter more than those remaster-specific features. Check the current regional storefront before paying, because neither the historical launch information nor the available official descriptions establishes a universal present-day price or stock position.
