Zooplop is a casual indie puzzle game from Venturous. You drop animals into a limited play area, merge matching animals into larger ones, and work up the sequence toward the whale. It is sold as a PC game on Steam and can be played free in a web browser on Poki.
What kind of game Zooplop is
Zooplop is a small-scale puzzle game built around one loop: drop, match, merge. Venturous is listed as both developer and publisher on Steam, and Poki also names Venturous as the creator. Steam gives the release date as December 13, 2023.
How the drop-and-merge loop works
Each round follows the same sequence, and the goal is to keep growing your animals until you reach the largest one in the chain.
- Position an animal over the play area.
- Release it so it drops into the playfield.
- If it meets a matching animal, the two combine into a larger animal.
- Repeat, climbing through the animal sequence toward the whale.
Why space is the real constraint
Steam describes the playfield as space-limited. Every animal you drop takes up room, and if you release too many without merging them, you can run out of space entirely. Merges are what clear room, so the practical skill is deciding when to drop an animal to make a match and when a drop would only crowd the board. Because the game is about space as much as matching, a run can end from a bad drop rather than a missed opportunity.

Controls
Desktop with mouse or keyboard
Poki lists the following desktop controls:
- Hold and release the mouse button to move and drop an animal.
- Use A/D or the left and right arrow keys to move an animal.
- Use S or the down arrow key to drop it.
Phone and tablet
Poki lists phone and tablet support and mentions touch controls for those devices. Its controls description covers only the mouse and keyboard scheme, so the touch gestures are not spelled out there. Expect to pick them up during play.

There are two established access routes. They differ in format, cost, and device support.

- Double-Sided Scoring Tokens: Each token can be played 2 different ways and there are 4 types of scores. Players must choose which scoring option to take and which to give up.
- Growing Scores: As the game progresses, opportunities to increase scores develop throughout the game. A token placed earlier can become more and more valuable, depending on how you place tiles.

Steam Deck and Linux compatibility
Steam’s listing includes a SteamOS + Linux section, but that section describes the platform, not a verified Steam Deck status. A single post in Steam Community says the game stopped working on Steam Deck after an update. That is one user’s dated report, not an official compatibility statement, and the post’s date should be checked on the thread before you rely on it. If Steam Deck play matters to you, look at the most recent reviews on the store page first.

Neither Steam’s listing nor Poki’s page mentions a physical edition, official merchandise, a printed manual, or a required accessory. The only thing described as needed is a device that runs the chosen version, with a mouse, keyboard, or touchscreen for input.

Which version to choose
If you want a downloadable PC game with listed features such as cloud saves and achievements, buy it on Steam after checking the current price.
