Cricket Captain 2023 is a cricket management simulation: you select and develop a squad, make tactical decisions, and watch those choices unfold in matches. It is not primarily a direct-action batting game. What kind of game is Cricket Captain 2023?
Developed and published by Childish Things Ltd., Cricket Captain 2023 was released on Steam on June 13, 2023. Its focus is the work around the match: recruiting players, training and nurturing them, assessing form and strengths, and choosing how to manage the team. Childish Things’ description frames the goal as turning off-field decisions into on-field success.
That makes it closer to a cricket counterpart to a team-management game than a hands-on batting game. Matches are where management choices play out, rather than the game being centred on controlling every shot yourself.
What changed in the 2023 edition?
Batting aggression responds to the player
The headline change is an adaptive batting-aggression system. According to Childish Things, it considers a batter’s ability and natural aggression in relation to the tactic currently being used, rather than relying only on match format. The publisher also revised player ratings and notes that players developed in 20-over cricket may naturally have more aggressive styles.

More information for evaluating players and teams
The 2023 edition adds international player rankings with historical data and all-rounders, plus player-form information that includes opposition and historical data. Recent international form graphs provide another view of performance. International team rankings are updated using results from a four-year window.
Wicket-keeper statistics are more detailed, including keeper and outfield catches and byes conceded. The publisher also says wicket-keeper ability is represented more accurately.

Childish Things lists an Asia Trophy, updated Test and ODI championships, and a new South African franchise league with six teams.
