Will zombies break turtle eggs?
Yes. Mojang’s Java Edition Snapshot 18W19B notes explicitly list the issue “Zombies can destroy turtle eggs through a full block and a half above the egg.” That confirms the destructive interaction; it does not establish a complete account of zombie targeting or pathfinding behavior. The note is from a 2018 snapshot, so it should not be treated as a guarantee about every current edition and version.

When turtle eggs were introduced in Java Edition 1.13, Mojang advised players to “protect them from hostile mobs.” The notes identify “them” as turtle eggs. Mojang’s Java Edition 1.13 notes also describe turtles laying eggs on beaches.
What changes in Bedrock when mob griefing is disabled?
Mojang’s Bedrock 1.13.0 notes say, “Mobs will no longer break Turtle Eggs when mob griefing is disabled.” This is a specific setting-related statement from that release, not a claim that eggs are protected under every setting or in every Bedrock version. See the Bedrock 1.13.0 notes.

What to take away when protecting eggs
- Do not think of zombies as eating the eggs: the documented interaction is destruction.
- In Java, keep eggs protected from hostile mobs: Mojang’s 1.13 release notes give that general warning.
- In Bedrock, check the mob-griefing setting: the 1.13.0 notes tie the no-breaking behavior to mob griefing being disabled.
