Yes. In ULTRAKILL, V1 is a blood-fueled machine: it absorbs blood through its armor to refuel and repair itself. During gameplay, soaking in enemies’ blood also restores health.
How blood powers V1
The official ULTRAKILL Steam listing establishes blood as the fuel for the machines left on Earth. It says blood is running out on the surface, sending machines into Hell to find more. V1’s specific mechanism is described by the ULTRAKILL Wiki’s V1 entry: its experimental armor absorbs blood directly, so it can refuel and repair through contact rather than a separate manual refueling process.
What blood does during gameplay
Blood is also tied to V1’s health in play. The Steam listing describes the mechanic as: “Soak yourself in their blood to regain health and keep fighting.” That makes the answer both a matter of the game’s fictional premise and a practical gameplay mechanic: blood fuels V1 and helps restore it.
Is this meant literally?
Only within ULTRAKILL’s fictional world. The game’s official store copy sums up its premise with the slogan “MANKIND IS DEAD. BLOOD IS FUEL. HELL IS FULL.” It is a description of the game’s machines, not a real-world claim about how machines operate.
