FINAL FANTASY XIV Online is already available on Xbox Series X|S. The full release arrived on March 21, 2024, following an open beta that began February 21. The Game Pass Ultimate offer tied to launch was temporary and ended April 19, 2024; it is not a current way to claim the game for free.
When did Final Fantasy XIV come to Xbox?
The Xbox Series X|S open beta began on February 21, 2024, and the full version launched on March 21, 2024. Xbox Wire said beta progress would carry over to the full release, and that the beta included Free Trial content. Xbox Wire’s open-beta announcement and full-launch coverage confirm the dates.
Which Xbox consoles support it?
The Xbox Store lists FINAL FANTASY XIV Online for Xbox Series X|S and identifies it as optimized for those consoles. The cited listing does not list Xbox One as supported. Check the current Xbox Store listing for availability and terms.
What does the Xbox Starter Edition include?
The current Xbox Store listing says the Starter Edition includes A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, plus a 30-day free play period. That is the current listing’s description; it should not be confused with the contents of the separate 2024 Game Pass launch perk.

The Free Trial is exempt from that paid-subscription condition. All editions require registration, and the listing’s terms can change, so check the store before purchasing.
Do you need Game Pass to play FFXIV on Xbox?
There are two separate requirements to account for. The Xbox Store says console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate, sold separately. Separately, a paid game edition requires an active FINAL FANTASY XIV subscription after its included 30-day play period. Game Pass does not replace that game subscription.

Is the Starter Edition still free with Game Pass Ultimate?
No. Square Enix’s launch announcement offered eligible Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members a no-charge Starter Edition claim from March 21 through April 19, 2024. That promotion has expired. Its launch-era edition was described as including A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood; the current Xbox Store listing describes the purchased Starter Edition as also including Shadowbringers. These are different offers and descriptions, not one set of promotion terms. Square Enix’s dated announcement gives the original claim window and perk details.

The Xbox Store advertises cross-platform multiplayer, 4K Ultra HD, and console keyboard and mouse capability. Xbox Wire also described 4K support on Series X and faster loading on both Series X and S in its beta coverage. These are official product and publisher descriptions, not independent performance tests; the listing does not establish that a keyboard and mouse are necessary.
