Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 7.4, released December 16, 2025, removed class/job and level requirements for most gear glamours. Armor and other eligible equipment can now show its appearance across those boundaries, but the change did not remove every restriction: weapons and tools remain limited by item type, and race, gender, and Grand Company appearance conditions still apply.
What changed in Patch 7.4?
Before the update, class/job and level requirements could prevent a piece of gear’s appearance from being used in situations where the character did not meet those requirements. Patch 7.4 changed that rule: gear can be glamoured regardless of its class/job or level requirements, and its appearance displays regardless of the character’s current class, job, or level. Square Enix’s Patch 7.4 notes say the change covers player characters, retainers, squadron members, and Custom Delivery clients.

Square Enix also notes that some gear glamoured before Patch 7.4, whose appearance did not display in Patch 7.38 or earlier, may display from Patch 7.4 onward. The change therefore affects both new glamour choices and some previously applied glamours.
Which restrictions remain?
Weapons and tools
Weapons and tools still have to be glamoured over the same item type. A dark knight arm can be applied to another dark knight arm, and a shield to another shield; the update does not let you put one weapon or tool type’s appearance onto another. In the November 2025 Letter from the Producer LIVE, Square Enix explained that weapons and tools are exceptions because they affect animations and can only be glamoured over items belonging to the same job or class.

Race, gender, and Grand Company conditions
Race-, gender-, and Grand Company-based equipment restrictions remain. Some pieces, including race-specific gear, display their appearance only when the character meets the conditions to wear that gear. Cross-job and cross-level glamour does not override those appearance eligibility rules.
What the rule change means in practice
| Glamour rule | After Patch 7.4 |
|---|---|
| Class/job requirements for eligible gear | No longer prevent using or displaying the glamour across classes or jobs. |
| Level requirements for eligible gear | No longer prevent using or displaying the glamour across levels. |
| Weapon and tool type | Still restricted to the same item type; weapon and tool animations are the stated reason. |
| Race, gender, or Grand Company eligibility | Restrictions remain; certain appearances show only when their conditions are met. |
In short, you can use eligible armor appearances across jobs and levels, but the underlying appearance rules still matter. The update changes which class/job and level requirements block a glamour; it does not make every item appearance universally wearable.

Patch 7.4: the restrictions changed
Square Enix announced the plan in the November 14, 2025 Letter from the Producer LIVE, then implemented it in Patch 7.4, available December 16, 2025. The official release announcement confirms Patch 7.4’s availability, while the Patch 7.4 notes document the implemented rules.
Patch 7.4 also adjusted outfit glamours: a complete set is no longer required, prism use is based on the number of pieces added, piece counts are displayed, and more outfit glamours were added for older gear.

Patch 7.5: more outfit options
Patch 7.5 added outfit glamours for Hall of the Novice and dungeon gear, a “Try On” command during outfit-glamour creation, and the ability to remove individual pieces from a set. These are follow-up outfit features; they do not change the weapon/tool or appearance-eligibility exceptions described above. See the official Patch 7.5 notes.
Armoire and dye changes previewed for Patch 7.5
In its March 2026 producer letter, Square Enix described an armoire expansion arriving in Patch 7.5 for all job-specific gear and all gear sets from 7.x dungeons, with support for older dungeon gear to be added gradually. It also previewed dye consolidation and said qualifying dyes made unusable by that change could be exchanged. Those are separate inventory and dye updates, not additional glamour eligibility exceptions. Details appear in the March 2026 Letter from the Producer LIVE.
