Fortnite login was restored on August 14, 2025, after an Epic Online Services authentication outage affected players across platforms. Epic said access was back everywhere at about 8:54 p.m. ET, after PlayStation access returned earlier. This was a 2025 incident, not evidence of a current August 2026 outage.
The outage also affected Rocket League, Fall Guys and other Epic Online Services titles.

Fortnite outage timeline
| Time | Event |
|---|---|
| About 6:39 p.m. ET | Epic reported login problems. |
| About 8:02 p.m. ET | Most services had recovered, although PlayStation users were still affected. |
| About 8:54 p.m. ET | Epic said the login outage was resolved across all platforms. |
That represents roughly two hours and 15 minutes from the initial update to the all-platform resolution, although restoration was staged and individual players may have experienced different downtime.
Which platforms and games were affected?
The incident had broad platform impact, but the evidence does not show that every platform experienced identical symptoms or downtime. A failed login was specifically observed on a Nintendo Switch 2, while PlayStation access remained affected during the intermediate recovery update. Epic’s final statement said access had returned across all platforms.

Because this was primarily an authentication outage, players could be prevented from reaching Fortnite or matchmaking. The available reports do not establish a separate matchmaking failure, deleted accounts, lost cosmetics, missing purchases, or lost progress.
What error did players see?
One reported Fortnite message said: unable to sign in to your account for online services
and please try again later.
Epic also documents the related message Unable to login to Fortnite Servers. Please try again later
as an error that can occur when the game cannot connect to its servers quickly enough.

The same message can result from a local connection or platform-network problem, so it is not by itself proof of a global outage.

- Check the Epic Games Public Status page and the Fortnite status page.
- Check Fortnite Status on X for an investigation or restoration update.
- Exit Fortnite completely rather than leaving it suspended, then restart the game.
- Restart the console, PC, or Epic Games Launcher and try signing in again.
- Check the status of your console network and home internet connection.
- If Epic shows its services as operational but the problem continues, follow Epic’s login-error troubleshooting guidance.
Do not reinstall Fortnite or repeatedly reset your network before checking the official status pages. During a confirmed platform-wide outage, local troubleshooting generally cannot restore Epic’s authentication service.

A problem is more likely to be Epic-wide when Fortnite, Rocket League and Fall Guys fail at the same time, multiple platforms show login errors, or Epic confirms an authentication incident. It is more likely to be local when only one device or network is affected, other online games work normally, and Epic reports all systems operational.
Even after Epic restores service, one platform may recover later than another. A console can also have its own network outage, and a game may retain a failed login session until it is fully restarted.
Bottom line
Fortnite login returned across platforms at approximately 8:54 p.m. ET on August 14, 2025. The incident was a broad Epic authentication problem that also affected Rocket League and Fall Guys. If you are seeing the same error during a new incident, check Epic’s official status pages first; the 2025 resolution does not confirm that Fortnite is available during any later outage.
