Gameloft’s UNO & Friends announcement trailer was published on March 21, 2013, introducing a planned social version of the card game for iOS and Android. The game had first been announced with Mattel in July 2012 as a broader online project, with plans for several platforms.
What was UNO & Friends?
UNO & Friends was a digital take on Mattel’s UNO card game, developed as a Gameloft–Mattel project. Their July 23, 2012 announcement described it as an online, multiplatform game built around playing UNO with other people.
The announcement said players could challenge up to three other players in real time and use voice and text chat. Those details describe the plans announced in 2012, rather than confirming what features ultimately shipped.
When was the UNO & Friends trailer released?
Gameloft published its official UNO & Friends announcement trailer on March 21, 2013. Its title identifies iPhone, iPad, and Android, and its description called the game “Coming soon to iOS & Android!” That was promotional wording at the time, not a current release notice.

- UNO Show 'em No Mercy game adds 56 more cards, special rules and super-tough action cards for the most brutal edition of UNO ever!
- Tougher action cards, such as Skip Everyone, Wild Draw 6 and even Wild Draw 10 make game play merciless!
- The Stacking Rule lets players pass the penalty (Draw +2, +4, +6, +10) to the next player until whoever can't play has to take all the cards combined!
- Whenever a '7' or a '0' card is played, players must swap hands with another player!
- The Mercy Rule means that if any player gets 25+ cards in their hand, they are out of the game!
What did Gameloft and Mattel say about the project?
Gameloft’s Senior Vice President of Publishing, Gonzague de Vallois, said the new game and its social features would be “at the heart of UNO® & Friends,” describing the project as an effort to change how people played UNO digitally. Mattel Games marketing vice president Nick Karamanos framed the partnership as a way to make UNO more accessible on platforms its fans used.
Gameloft’s 2012 announcement also reported that its digital UNO franchise had accumulated “over 63 million downloads” since its launch in 2008. That is the company’s historical figure, not a current total or an independently verified count.
