Member Level 12 through Mrs. Joan at the town-center Adoption Center / Pet Supplies shop. You must unlock Cat Caring first, complete its initial tutorial, and then return to Mrs. Joan to unlock Dog Caring. Cats and dogs are the house pets available through this system; wildlife such as alpacas, deer, capybaras, birds, and pandas belongs to separate animal-care systems.
How to unlock pets in Heartopia
Complete the five required hobbies—Cooking, Gardening, Insect Catching, Bird Watching, and Fishing—and reach D.G. Member Level 12. The resulting quest directs you to Mrs. Joan at the town-center Adoption Center / Pet Supplies shop.
- Reach D.G. Member Level 12.
- Speak to Mrs. Joan and give her a Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock Cat Caring.
- Complete the initial Cat Caring flow and adopt or interact with your first cat as required by the tutorial.
- Speak to Mrs. Joan again and choose the dog-related option, then exchange the required Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock Dog Caring.
The order is fixed: D.G. Member Level 12 → Cat Caring → the first cat/tutorial → Dog Caring. Dogs cannot be unlocked before cats.
How to adopt a cat or dog
After the relevant care hobby is available, visit Mrs. Joan’s adoption facility. The selection contains three cats and three dogs at a time, with the available animals refreshing daily. Breed, appearance, and personality combinations can change after the reset.

- Approach an available animal.
- Interact with the bubble above its head to open its ID card.
- Check the displayed breed, gender, and two personality traits.
- Select Adopt if the animal suits you.
- Pay the 500g physical-exam fee, confirm the adoption, and choose a name.
The 500g charge is described as a physical-exam fee rather than a purchase price. Once confirmed, the pet is sent directly to your home plot. Open the smartwatch’s Pet app—also referred to in some guides as the Pet Tab or Pet Catalog—to locate and manage it.
Check traits before adopting
Do not select Adopt until you have inspected the ID card. Personality traits are randomized for each animal, while breed is primarily an appearance choice. Traits such as Naughty and Clingy can be associated with more mischief and furniture damage, so they may matter if you want a lower-maintenance home.
There are no documented rerolls within the current daily selection. If the breed or trait combination you want is missing, check again after the next daily reset.

How to care for cats and dogs
Both species benefit from the same core care activities: feeding, petting, bathing, and playing. These actions improve bonding and progress the relevant Cat Caring or Dog Caring hobby. The smartwatch’s Pet app tracks important condition indicators, including hunger, energy, and happiness.

Start feeding through the pet’s food-bowl icon. Cats strongly prefer fish. Dogs generally favor crops and gardening-related foods, although sensitive pets may refuse certain food types.
Bathing
For dogs, choose Pet Wash from the interaction menu and complete the three stages in order: wash → rinse → dry.

Playing and going outside
Dogs have a Go Out option and can accompany you on walks. Stay reasonably close: if you move too far ahead, the walk ends and the dog returns home.
Cats have their own play and training interactions, including prompt-based toy activities and the Kitty Time collection.

Dog training uses in-game interactions rather than typed commands or console syntax. The documented trick names are:

To train a dog, open its interaction menu, select Train, watch the dog’s action, and choose the appropriate response. Applaud correct behavior and reprimand incorrect behavior.

Furniture damage, boarding, and renaming
Pets can damage furniture, particularly when their personalities encourage mischief. Damaged furniture must be repaired. If you need to free a household slot temporarily, boarding costs 20,000g. Boarding does not remove the pet from your household permanently.
Current guides state that pets cannot be permanently returned or rehomed, so inspect the ID card carefully before adopting. Names are less risky: you can rename a pet later.
Why dogs are not appearing
If you cannot find dogs at Mrs. Joan’s facility, check these requirements:
- Cat Caring must be unlocked.
- The initial Cat Caring tutorial must be complete.
- You must return to Mrs. Joan and exchange the dog-related Hobby Expansion Ticket.
- The current daily selection must include the dog you want; selections cannot be manually rerolled.
If the desired dog or cat is not available, wait for the next daily refresh rather than spending resources expecting an immediate reroll.

What you can and cannot adopt
Mrs. Joan’s pet system covers domestic cats and dogs. Claims that every wild animal can be adopted are outdated or incorrect. Alpacas, deer, capybaras, birds, and pandas are associated with separate wildlife or animal-care systems, not this household adoption process.
