TOEM’s main story takes about 3½ hours in How Long To Beat estimates reproduced by Deku Deals. Allow about 4½ hours for the story plus extras, or roughly 6 hours for completionist play. After the base game, you can unlock Basto, a free post-game region that its developers estimate takes about one to two hours.
How long does TOEM take to beat?

These are third-party estimates, not an official runtime or a guarantee. A Steam discussion started September 17, 2021 includes individual reports of around four hours for the story and about five hours for full completion. Those are anecdotes, not a representative average, and players may define “complete” differently.

TOEM’s camera-focused puzzles and character requests give players reasons to linger. The game’s Steam listing describes taking photos to solve puzzles and help characters. The developers’ postmortem discusses the camera, photo album, bus travel, characters, and cassette tapes. It is reasonable to expect optional activities to affect a player’s total time, but the available estimates do not measure exactly how much each activity adds.
What can you do after TOEM’s main story?
Unlock Basto
Finish the base game, then visit Nana at home in Homelanda to access Basto. Niklas Mikkelsen, CEO of Something We Made, described the route in a September 12, 2022 PlayStation.Blog post: “You’ll automatically unlock it once you complete the base game, then all you have to do is visit Nana back home in Homelanda!” Basto was released as a free update.

Explore the new region
The developers called Basto the game’s biggest region and estimated about one to two hours of new content. A September 12, 2022 Steam announcement says most players would take about one to two hours to reach 100% in Basto. Its activities include:
- Treasure hunts, minigames, spooky stories, and new quests.
- New NPCs and 20 critters to photograph and record in the Compendium.
- A water-popper camera attachment for interacting with objects and finding stamps.
- Six additional music tracks.
The one-to-two-hour figure is the developer’s estimate for Basto, not a measured combined runtime for the base game and the region. Adding it to the roughly six-hour completionist estimate gives only a rough planning total: the figures come from different sources and may use different completion definitions.

Start directly with post-game content (optional)
A later October 27, 2022 developer update added a new-adventure option that makes all regions and the items needed for Basto accessible. It is a shortcut rather than the usual unlock path. The developers warn that some sequences may feel unusual, and that this save skips experiencing the ending sequence because the “Experience TOEM” quest is already complete.
