Firmware recovery comes last, and it must use the package written for your specific controller.
Identify your edition and connection mode first
The G7 Pro name covers more than one hardware configuration. GameSir publishes separate FAQs, manuals and firmware packages for the standard G7 Pro, wireless editions, and the G7 Pro 8K. Button combinations, reset steps and platform support are edition-specific, so a fix written for a similarly named controller may not apply to yours. Before you change anything, check the label and model information on your controller and match it to the manual or FAQ on GameSir’s support site.
Your connection mode also determines which symptoms are relevant. GameSir’s official FAQ and connection tutorial describe three paths:

These are the manufacturer’s descriptions for the versions it covers. Do not assume that every G7 Pro edition supports the same host or input mode. If a path in the table does not match your controller, check the manual for your edition before drawing a compatibility conclusion.

Run the basic connection checks
Work through these checks in order. Each step takes a minute or less and rules out the most common causes of wired detection failures.
- Confirm the connection is complete. For a wired test, make sure the Type-C end is fully seated at the controller and at the PC. GameSir’s FAQ frames its wired troubleshooting around a fully connected controller, so a loose plug is the first thing to exclude.
- Use a direct motherboard USB port. GameSir’s official troubleshooting FAQ states: “Swap your USB ports: Prioritize direct motherboard USB ports instead of front chassis ports or USB hubs.” On a desktop, this means a port on the rear of the case wired to the motherboard. Remove any hub from the chain while you test.
- Test a cable that carries data. A cable that only charges may not provide a working data connection, and a controller can appear to power on without being detected. Start with the Type-C cable included with the controller, since GameSir’s tutorial names it for wired PC use. If that cable fails on a direct port, try a different cable that you have verified for data transfer.
- Check the rear mode switch. If you are using the controller wirelessly, confirm the switch is in the position that matches the connection you intend, either Bluetooth or the dongle. GameSir says toggling the mode switch may also resolve some wired symptoms, so flip it once and retest.
- Reset the controller only if it still does not respond. The steps are in the next section.
Reset the controller
The G7 Pro has a reset pinhole on the back. Press it with a thin object, such as a pin or the tip of a straightened paperclip. No special repair tool is needed. GameSir identifies this pinhole as the reset method for an unresponsive controller.
A reset may erase saved settings. Read the reset instructions in the FAQ or manual for your exact edition before you press the pinhole, and note any custom mappings you want to restore afterward. A reset is a separate step from firmware recovery. Doing one does not replace the other, and it does not confirm that the firmware is damaged.
If the controller will not turn on or an update fails
GameSir’s G7 Pro FAQ gives reset steps for two situations: a controller that will not turn on, and an update that failed or stalled. Follow the steps listed for your edition. If the controller still will not turn on, or the update remains stuck after the reset, move on to the manual recovery method below rather than repeating the same action.

If the controller is powered but not detected
A controller that lights up but does not register input in games or in GameSir Nexus may be in HID mode. HID mode is a valid input mode, and this symptom does not on its own prove that firmware is corrupted. GameSir’s FAQ provides button combinations for resetting the PID and for toggling the mode. Use the combination listed for your exact edition, and confirm the result in the software you are using before trying another combination.
Update the firmware
Update only after the basic checks and, if needed, the reset have not restored the controller. Use the update method that matches your controller, and do not flash a package intended for a different edition.
The ordinary update path
GameSir’s FAQ describes firmware updates through its supported software. Its support center lists the controller software and manuals for each product. Download the software and the instructions from the support center page for your exact variant. GameSir Nexus and GameSir Connect are separate tools, so check which one the instructions for your controller call for.
GameSir Connect forced update for listed devices
GameSir Connect’s product page lists supported devices, including the G7 Pro 8K, and describes a forced controller update procedure. According to the page, you start the app before connecting the controller, then connect the controller while holding Logo + Menu. The same page describes a dongle update procedure. These steps apply to the devices GameSir lists for Connect. They are not a universal method for every G7 Pro, so use them only if your model is on that list and the page’s instructions match your controller.

Manual update on a Windows PC
If the ordinary update path fails and the controller remains stuck after troubleshooting, GameSir’s G7 Pro support material directs owners to update the firmware manually from a Windows PC. Use these steps:
- Confirm the exact edition of your controller, using the model information on the device.
- Download the firmware package and tutorial labeled for that edition from GameSir’s support center.
- Follow the edition’s tutorial from start to finish, without substituting another package.
- Keep the controller connected for the full update and do not interrupt it.
Manual recovery is the last resort. If the controller still fails after a correct manual update, contact GameSir support with your edition and a description of the symptoms rather than trying other firmware packages.

A replacement USB-C data cable makes sense only after the included cable and a tested cable both fail on a direct motherboard port. A new cable does not fix firmware problems. The USB wireless receiver matters for PC wireless XInput, but the manufacturer’s instructions for ordinary troubleshooting do not require buying a replacement receiver. Do not buy a second controller as a repair step. Start with the checks and reset described above, because they resolve the common connection problems without new hardware.
The manufacturer’s material also does not describe any third-party tool or service that updates G7 Pro firmware. Use GameSir’s own support center for software, manuals and firmware packages.

GameSir’s FAQ and support center are the primary references for each step. Check them for the version that matches your controller before you start an update, because button combinations, package names and supported software can change over time.
Updating firmware with the wrong package, or interrupting an update, can leave the controller unusable. Follow the steps for your exact edition and keep the connection stable throughout.
Once the basic checks, the reset and the correct update path are complete, the next step is only a question of matching the controller’s connection mode to the host you are using.
