Saber Interactive acknowledges that Insurgency: Sandstorm has crash issues, but it does not identify a universal cause or offer a general crash fix. The only specific workaround currently listed is for an Xbox start-screen input lock associated with Turtle Beach headsets: unplug the headset until the game has fully launched, then reconnect it. Crashes, frozen controls and network interruptions can have different symptoms, so use the platform-specific reporting steps below to help identify what is happening.
What is known about the issue
As checked on October 8, 2026, Saber’s Known Issues page lists crashes among the issues it is aware of. It asks affected players to submit support tickets with crash logs and platform information. The page does not specify which platforms are affected by the listed crashes, what triggers them, how often they occur or when they might be resolved. Its status can change, and the page does not state when it was last revised.

A freeze or failure to proceed past a screen is not necessarily the same as a crash. Saber separately lists server instability and connection or packet-loss problems across server regions. If the game remains open but you lose connection, that is a network symptom; the Known Issues page does not identify it as a client crash or give a resolution date.
The Xbox headset workaround: only for a start-screen input lock
Saber’s explicit workaround applies to an Xbox issue in which a Turtle Beach headset is associated with controller inputs becoming temporarily locked at the start screen. It is not presented as a fix for general Xbox crashes or freezing during a match.

Saber describes this as a temporary workaround. If your symptoms do not match a start-screen controller input lock, use the crash-reporting steps for your platform instead.
How to report a crash on each platform
Crash reports give Saber platform-specific information to investigate. Its bug-reporting guide gives these routes:

| Platform | What to submit | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Compress and attach the UE4 crash logs folder to a support ticket. | In File Explorer, enter %localappdata%InsurgencySaved and locate the Crashes folder. |
| PlayStation | Send the crash report to Saber using the console’s Report a Problem button. | Use the console’s reporting function when the crash occurs. |
| Xbox | Use Microsoft’s Report a Problem app and enable Reproduce with Tracing. | Install the app if needed, then submit the report for investigation. |
For PC, the folder path above points to Saved; attach the compressed Crashes folder inside it, not the entire game installation. Include your platform information with the support ticket.
PC troubleshooting steps Saber recommends
Saber’s technical-issues guide recommends checking requirements and trying several troubleshooting steps. They may help with technical problems, but Saber does not guarantee that any one step will fix every crash.

Check that the PC meets the system requirements
Compare every component against the game’s listed requirements. Saber says its minimum requirements were benchmarked in-house for 60 FPS or above more than 95% of the time during normal gameplay on low graphics settings. Its recommended requirements use the same stated target on medium-high settings. The support page does not give a year for those benchmarks in the information available here, and a benchmark target is not a promise that a particular PC will avoid crashes.
Adjust video settings
Try lowering or changing the in-game video settings if performance is poor or unstable. The right settings depend on the machine and player preference; the guidance does not prescribe one setting as a universal crash fix.

Verify Steam game files
- Run Steam as an administrator.
- Open the game’s Properties.
- Select Local Files, then Verify Integrity of Game Files.
Use this if you suspect the installed files may be corrupt. Steam’s verification checks the game files; it does not diagnose every possible cause of a crash.
Reinstall only as a last resort
If the technical issue continues after the other troubleshooting steps, Saber describes reinstalling as a last resort. If you contact support, attach a DxDiag report along with the relevant details and crash logs.

Choose the next step by symptom
- The Xbox game will not proceed past the start screen and controller input is locked while a Turtle Beach headset is connected: try the unplug-and-reconnect workaround.
- The game closes or crashes on PC: collect the UE4 logs from
%localappdata%InsurgencySavedCrashesand submit them with a support ticket; PC players can also follow Saber’s troubleshooting guidance. - The game closes or crashes on PlayStation or Xbox: submit a report through the console’s prescribed reporting route.
- The game stays open but connection or packet loss disrupts play: treat it as a network issue rather than assuming the client has crashed. Saber lists server instability separately and says it is working with its server provider.
