The report’s “disappointing” angle was the apparent lack of clues in the mystery-game artwork.
What the leaker reportedly forecast
Notebookcheck’s Alex Alderson reported on December 11, 2025, that Reddit user u/MeguminShiro expected Epic to keep offering Mystery Games through the end of its Holiday Sale. The report said the next game was expected to unlock on December 18 at 16:00 UTC, with the mystery-game promotion continuing until the sale ended January 8, 2026. Notebookcheck’s report attributed those forward-looking details to the Reddit post; they were a leak-based forecast, not a schedule confirmed by Epic.

What Epic officially confirmed
Epic’s 2025 Holiday Sale buyer’s guide confirms that the sale ran from December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026. It also says Hogwarts Legacy was free on the Epic Games Store through December 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET. That official offer period is separate from the reported 16:00 UTC next-game forecast, and confirmation of the sale dates does not verify the later Mystery Game schedule.
Why the forecast was called disappointing
The complaint was about presentation, not a confirmed change to the giveaways themselves: the Reddit thread asked, “So, no clues this year? The same symbols and same colors in all wrapping papers?” The post and comments show contemporary reader reaction to the apparent lack of useful teaser clues, not proof of what Epic intended or of which game would follow. The Reddit thread was titled “Next PC Freebie｜Mystery Game #2.”

Keep the Mystery Game schedule separate from other holiday extras
Epic also promoted free cosmetics, in-game currency, XP boosts, and app trials during the holiday period in its Epic Extras 2025 guide. Those are additional promotional items, not confirmation of the PC game giveaway timetable. The material available from Epic confirms the sale window, the opening Hogwarts Legacy offer, and the existence of the Extras promotions; it does not confirm every part of the leaker’s forecast.
Quick Recap

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
