To finish the Tea Bowls for Rikyu collection in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, complete “The Tea Ceremony,” speak with Sen no Rikyu in northern Kyoto, buy six bowls from Ornament Vendors in six regions for 125 Mon each, and defeat The Wise during the “Darkness Falls” quest at Kofukuji Temple in Yamato to get the seventh.
Before you start
The collection is locked behind a main story requirement. Gamer Guides, whose walkthrough was last dated April 25, 2025, lists the following sequence:
- Complete the quest “The Tea Ceremony.”
- Travel to Kyoto in Yamashiro and find Sen no Rikyu in northern Kyoto, just south of the Northern Kyoto Kakurega. Kakurega are the hideouts you use as fast-travel and resupply points.
- Speak with him. The walkthrough says to bow halfway and ask what he needs. This accepts the collection request.
Rikyu’s request calls for seven bowls. Six come from vendors who sell them for 125 Mon each. The seventh is a reward for defeating a named target, The Wise.
Where to find all seven bowls
Each vendor bowl is a separate purchase, so the table below lists the bowl name, region, route, and cost in the order the walkthrough presents them. Observe mode shows the vendors as small white dots, according to the same guide.

| Unique Tea Bowl Collection | Sakamoto, Omi | Go north from the Sakamoto Kakurega to the vendor. The guide routes players past the Nijo Tenshu and Pagoda of the Hills viewpoints on the way. | 125 Mon |
| Sophisticated Tea Bowl Collection | Azuchi, Omi | Cross from Sakamoto by boat, or travel around the lake. The vendor is west of the Sokenji Temple Viewpoint, on a small island near the path. | 125 Mon |

An independent XboxAchievements list matches the six vendor locations and the “Darkness Falls” source for the final bowl. That list calls the final bowl the “Classic Tea Bowl Collection,” while Gamer Guides uses “The Wise Tea Bowl Collection.” If the name in your collection menu differs from both, go by the menu, since the location is the same.
Suggested travel order
No single route is officially recommended, but the bowls group naturally by region:
Rank #2
- ENTER FEUDAL JAPAN - Explore the captivating open world of feudal Japan, from spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and war-ravaged landscapes. Adventure through unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.
- MASTER COMPLEMENTARY PLAYSTYLES - Become Naoe, a shinobi Assassin, and Yasuke, a legendary samurai, as you experience their riveting stories and master their complementary playstyles. As Naoe, use stealth to avoid detection and agility to confound your enemies. As Yasuke, strike your foes with lethal precision and power. Unlock new skills, gear, and progression independently for each character.
- MAKE INFORMATION YOUR WEAPON - Travel the world and build your own network of spies to be your eyes and ears across locations to hunt down your next target. Along the way, recruit new allies with unique abilities to help accomplish your missions
- BUILD A PLACE TO CALL HOME - Create a fully customizable hideout for your growing shinobi league as you train your crew, craft new gear, interact with key characters, and choose your base’s buildings layout, decorations, and accessories.
- Kyoto and Kameyama: The Rustic bowl and the Southern Kyoto Kakurega sit close together, and the Simple bowl at Kameyama is a westward trip from the same hideout.
- Omi: The Unique bowl at Sakamoto and the Sophisticated bowl at Azuchi are best collected in one trip, since Azuchi is across the lake from Sakamoto.
- Sakai: The Intricate bowl is a separate stop in Izumi Settsu.
- Obama: The Elegant bowl is a long trip north to Wakasa, so plan it as its own leg.
- Yamato: The Wise is at Kofukuji Temple in Nara Heartland. The guide’s entry covers the location and the quest name only, not the steps inside “Darkness Falls,” so expect to follow that quest’s own objectives.
Completion reward
Gamer Guides lists 1,100 XP for completing the collection. It also says the “Collector” trophy or achievement is awarded if this is your first completed collection. The guide adds that another collection quest can unlock the same trophy, so finishing Rikyu’s request is not the only way to earn it.
Known fix in Title Update 1.1.4
Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.1.4 release notes include this line: “‘Tea Bowls For Rikyu’: The game no longer skips to the end of the ‘Pilgrimage’ quest after completion.” The note describes one progression problem that was fixed in that update. It does not confirm that every possible quest bug has been resolved, so if you see an unexpected skip, check the patch notes for your version.

What is and is not confirmed
The prices, directions, and reward values come from the Gamer Guides walkthrough dated April 25, 2025. Later patches may have changed quest behavior or vendor placement, and the source does not confirm the current state of the game. The walkthrough gives no independent player testing data, so the route notes above describe the listed locations rather than measured travel times.
The game itself is the only product required for this quest. No real-world tea bowls or tea sets are part of the in-game collection.
