The Silver Case 2425 is a two-game collection whose appeal rests on strange, literary crime stories rather than broad accessibility. Metacritic’s Nintendo Switch critic page lists a 72/100 from 14 reviews, a mixed-to-average result that reflects the split between critics drawn to its noir atmosphere and Suda51’s offbeat writing and those less persuaded by its eccentricity.
What critics say about The Silver Case 2425 on Switch
Metacritic lists a 72/100 Metascore for the Nintendo Switch collection, classified as “Mixed or Average.” The displayed 2021 review set contains 14 critic reviews: eight positive (57%), five mixed (36%), and one negative (7%). Those are counts of the reviews on the page, not a survey of players or a measure of sales.
The split makes sense for a collection built around a distinctive, sometimes demanding style. Positive reviews praise its unusual writing, crime-fiction and noir sensibility, and the personality associated with creator Suda51. Reservations tend to concern how readily that storytelling lands, especially for players new to its approach. The score is a snapshot of the Switch reviews shown by Metacritic, not a permanent or universal verdict. Metacritic’s Nintendo Switch critic reviews
How the reviews differ
Examples from the review set illustrate why a middle-range aggregate can sit alongside enthusiastic praise. Digitally Downloaded gave the collection 90/100, describing the games as literary and praising their place in crime fiction and noir. Hey Poor Player scored it 80/100 and called it “wonderful and weird,” while noting that not understanding everything at first is normal. Nintendo World Report’s 75/100 review saw its strongest fit among people already interested in Suda-written mysteries. Nintendo Life’s review was much harsher, at 3/10.
#1 Best Overall
- Surreal Salvation: Discover two thrilling crime mysteries from the mind of SUDA51. Explore a dystopian world filled with dark twists and turns to uncover the chilling truth
- A Sensory Masterpiece: Immerse yourself in the world of Kanto with stylish and shocking art as well as music by renowned composer Masafumi Takada (killer7, Danganronpa, No More Heroes)
- Double Crime, Double Time: Experience The Silver Case and The 25th Ward together on the Nintendo Switch for the very first time, and unravel dark mysteries on the go
Taken together, those judgments point less to a consensus that the games are conventionally polished or easy to recommend than to a question of taste: does their peculiar, text-led mystery appeal to you? Switch Scores’ review listing
What is included in the collection?
The Silver Case 2425 bundles two adventure/visual-novel games: The Silver Case and The 25th Ward: The Silver Case. - Kill the Past x Kill the Life
- Descend into a dystopian world from the mind of SUDA51
Who is most likely to enjoy it?
A good fit if you want
- Crime fiction and noir atmosphere presented through an unusual, literary style.
- A mystery that values distinctive writing and mood over straightforward storytelling.
- A Suda51-penned game whose eccentricity is part of the attraction.
Think twice if you want
- A conventional, immediately clear detective story.
- A game that explains every narrative turn as it happens.
- A safe first choice if unusual visual-novel storytelling tends to frustrate you.
The reviews do not establish a single right response to the games’ opacity: Hey Poor Player explicitly treated initial confusion as expected, while Nintendo World Report framed the collection as a stronger recommendation for players already inclined toward this kind of mystery. If that sounds intriguing rather than off-putting, the critical split is less a warning than a useful signal about taste.
