Riot also lists certain Windows security settings that Vanguard may require; those are launch or security checks, not proof of what identifies a banned device.
What does Vanguard track?
Riot’s Privacy Notice, last modified April 28, 2026, describes information Riot may process across its services. The categories include identifiers such as IP addresses and unique device IDs; electronic network activity; and computer or device information such as processing capabilities, manufacturer and model, language and regional settings, screen resolution, operating-system name and version, and connection details.
The notice also says Riot uses technology to detect cheating and monitor unauthorized behavior or modifications. It is a service-wide description of categories and purposes—not a component-by-component Vanguard specification. It does not say which data points are used in a VALORANT hardware-ban decision, how they are combined, or how long a device association lasts. In particular, these general categories do not establish that Vanguard reads a specific motherboard, drive, network-adapter, or BIOS serial number for a ban.
Can Vanguard see my hardware ID?
Riot’s notice mentions “unique device IDs,” but does not define that phrase as a particular hardware identifier or say that Vanguard uses one named component ID to match devices for hardware bans. The public material supports saying Riot may process device identifiers and system information; it does not support a definitive list of hardware-ban identifiers or a description of the matching logic.

Are Vanguard’s security requirements hardware-ban identifiers?
No such connection is established in Riot’s public documentation. Riot’s Vanguard system requirements article, dated May 31, 2026, says Vanguard may require Windows security features before a Riot game launches or during its pre-launch check, depending on the PC’s configuration.

These are documented security-configuration requirements. They show that Vanguard may check whether settings are enabled; Riot does not describe them as the device fingerprint used to impose a hardware ban. If Vanguard blocks launch over a security setting, Riot directs players to the Vanguard tray icon for relevant troubleshooting guidance.

What happens when Riot enforces an anti-cheat decision?
Riot says its anti-cheat and fraud-prevention technologies may run in the background and may make automated decisions. The Privacy Notice gives examples including temporary or permanent account suspensions, communication restrictions, content removal, and limited access to game content. These are general possible outcomes; the notice does not specify the exact consequence for every VALORANT hardware-ban case.
Can you appeal a VALORANT hardware ban?
Riot’s Privacy Notice says: “Our complaints procedure may allow you to appeal a decision.” It further says an agent makes a final manual determination based on the available evidence. The wording is qualified: it does not promise that every hardware ban is eligible for review, or that a review will reverse a decision.

What has Riot not publicly specified?
The Riot materials cited here do not establish the exact identifiers or matching logic for a VALORANT hardware ban, its duration, which accounts or devices it affects, or whether changing a component changes the ban. They also do not establish that reinstalling Windows or replacing hardware removes a ban. Avoid treating online claims about those specifics as confirmed Riot policy unless an up-to-date Riot source directly supports them.
