Power weapons and shotguns or burst-fire weapons are workable alternatives, and Smart weapons are a poor opener while his mask is active. The advice below comes from published game guides, not controlled testing, so treat it as a strong starting point rather than a ranking of exact damage.
Where you meet Oda
Oda appears during the Play It Safe mission, after V disconnects the Arasaka netrunner. The fight is built around three things: his fast Mantis Blade attacks, the Oni mask that disrupts Smart weapon tracking, and his ability to turn camouflaged and heal. Your weapon choice matters most because it determines whether you can keep damaging him through all three.
Weapon options compared
Guides agree on the overall shape of the fight but weigh the weapon types differently. The table summarises what each option is good for and where it falls short.

When choosing, ask four questions: whether your build supports the weapon, whether you can land damage while Oda moves, whether you can shoot through cover, and whether the weapon depends on Smart tracking. A Tech weapon scores well on the last two, which is why it is the default recommendation.

Handling Oda’s attacks
Mantis Blade rush and jumping strike
His fast blade attacks make close-range trades dangerous. Back away or dodge sideways out of the rush and the jumping strike, then fire during his recovery. Do not stand still to line up a perfect headshot while he is charging, because that is when he closes the distance and lands the combo.
Oni mask and Smart weapons
The mask interferes with Smart tracking, so do not rely on Smart weapons early in the fight. The guides suggest this sequence:

- Start with a Tech or Power weapon.
- Disable or damage the mask. Guides list Cyberware Malfunction, an EMP grenade, headshots on the mask, and a stealth takedown as options.
- Once Smart tracking works again, switch to a Smart weapon to follow a moving target.
Camouflage and healing
When Oda throws smoke and turns camouflaged to recover health, do not treat it as a safe pause. Turn on the scanner, follow his visible distortion or movement, and land a hit to interrupt the healing.
Homing missiles
When the homing missiles begin, move behind solid cover and wait for the volley to end. Resume ranged fire during his recovery, not while the missiles are still in the air.

How current the guidance is
The guides differ in age and do not consistently name the game version, platform, difficulty, or character build they were written for. The PowerPyx walkthrough and Twinfinite guide date to the game’s 2020 launch period. The Gamepressure page was last updated on 21 July 2023. The Gamers.Wiki guide is dated 30 July 2026, the most recent of the set.
None of these sources is official patch documentation, and none reports controlled damage measurements, so no exact damage ranking is established. If Oda’s behaviour seems different from what a guide describes, the weapon ranking above still applies, but check the specific mask and healing steps against your own game version.
