Brittle Quartzite comes from brittle stone nodes scattered across Grounded 2’s starting areas and caves. You break each node with an Omni-Hammer, collect the shards, and craft Brittle Whetstone at a workbench. The whetstone itself is never a map pickup, so the real job is gathering shards. The fastest concrete route most guides point to is the Toxic Anthill beneath the Picnic Table, once you have the Omni-Hammer.
Where the brittle quartzite nodes are
The community-maintained Grounded Wiki page for Brittle Quartzite lists nodes in a wide spread of Grounded 2 areas. The page describes them as appearing throughout the starting areas and caves rather than in one fixed spot. Its listed locations are:
- Anthills and Minor Caves
- Entrance Area and Picnic Table Area
- Ice Cream Cart surroundings and Snackbar Front Area
- Pine Hill and Statue Area
- Croquet Court and Ceremony Area
- Fire Pit, Greenhouse, Veggie Garden, and Pumpkin Patch
The wiki does not rank these areas by yield or by how long they take to reach, so the list tells you where nodes exist, not which one is quickest.
Landmarks for finding nodes
A PC Gamer walkthrough by Rory Norris, published July 29, 2025, gives more specific markers you can use on the map. It is a single author’s guide, not official developer documentation, but its landmarks are easy to check in game:
#1 Best Overall
| Area | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Entrance Area | Around the large tree |
| Picnic Table Area | The ground around the picnic table |
| Toxic Anthill | Underneath the east side of the checkered picnic blanket |
| Ice Cream Truck region | The western edge, near the Ranger Outpost |
| Statue Area | The flower beds and gardens around the statue |
Recommended route: the Toxic Anthill
The same walkthrough recommends the Toxic Anthill as a farming spot for quartzite and marble once your character is geared up. Its route is:
- Equip the Omni-Hammer, which the wiki lists as the required harvesting tool for brittle nodes.
- Go to the Picnic Table and stand under the east side of the checkered picnic blanket.
- Enter the anthill and follow the dirt tunnels downward until they turn to stone.
- Continue deeper into the stone tunnels, where the guide reports quartzite and marble deposits.
- Bring a light source. The guide recommends this for the dark tunnels; it is the author’s advice rather than a confirmed requirement.
Because the guide was published in July 2025, confirm that the anthill layout still matches what you see in your game before you commit a long session to it.

Harvesting nodes and what each one gives
Brittle nodes must be broken with an Omni-Hammer. According to the Grounded Wiki’s Brittle Quartzite page, each node yields three Brittle Quartzite Shards. The same page reports that a harvested node respawns after seven in-game days. Those are wiki-reported figures; the page does not state the game version they were checked against.
Shards stack in your inventory, so a single trip through the Toxic Anthill can collect a large batch if several nodes are present. Keep a few spare shards in reserve, because the whetstone recipe needs three of them per craft.

Crafting Brittle Whetstone
Take your shards to a workbench. PC Gamer says to open the Resources tab there to craft whetstones. The Grounded Wiki’s Resources (Grounded 2) page lists the following recipes:
| Recipe | Ingredients | Source and status |
|---|---|---|
| Shard recipe | 3 Brittle Quartzite Shards | Grounded Wiki, Resources (Grounded 2); undated |
| Alternate recipe | 1 sap and 1 larva spike | Grounded Wiki, Resources (Grounded 2); the unlock condition is not stated |
If the alternate recipe does not appear at your workbench, check your in-game recipe list. The available sources do not say when it unlocks, so do not assume it will be there early in the game.

Brittle Whetstone is a weapon upgrade material. The Grounded Wiki’s Resources page describes it that way, and it is the only use the sources cover.

Three sources are involved, and each has limits. The Brittle Quartzite location page and the Resources (Grounded 2) page are undated community wiki entries that can change with patches. The Brittle Quartzite Shard page on the same wiki mixes Grounded and Grounded 2 text, so this guide relies only on the Grounded 2-labelled figures for recipes. The PC Gamer walkthrough is dated July 29, 2025. As of October 2026, treat its route as a starting point and trust your own map and crafting menu if anything differs.

No developer statement or official document on these nodes or recipes was found, so this guide does not quote one.
Nothing else is needed to find or craft the resource. Once you have an Omni-Hammer, a workbench, and a light source for the Toxic Anthill, the route above is the whole job.
