Where Winds Meet does not have fixed character classes. Your combat role is determined by the two Martial Arts weapons you equip, their Path pairing, Mental Methods, Mystic Arts, and gear. For the current Version 2.0 update, the strongest documented pre-2.0 community choices were Bellstrike–Umbra for broadly powerful damage-over-time combat and Bamboocut–Dust for ranged raid damage, but neither is an official or universally best class.
This guide explains every current Path, its weapon pairing, what each build does well, how Version 2.0 changed the balance, and how to unlock and complete Path content.
How “classes” work in Where Winds Meet
There is no permanent class selection during character creation. “Class” is community shorthand for a weapon combination and build. You can obtain other Martial Arts later and equip two Martial Arts simultaneously, so your starting weapon does not permanently determine your character.
The official weapon families currently include sword, spear, dual blades, glaive, fan, umbrella, bow, and mystic martial arts. A Path is the archetype created by a specific two-weapon combination. Path challenges generally require both weapons in that pairing, not merely one weapon from it.

The current official website lists Version 2.0, “Unseen Approach,” dated August 7, 2026. Older guides that list only six Paths or describe a July 2026 meta are outdated.
Version 2.0 Path tier list
There is no developer-published tier list. T0, T1, and T2 are community labels, and the latest detailed ranking available before Version 2.0 was rechecked on July 8, 2026. It should therefore be treated as a useful baseline rather than a definitive post-update ranking.
| Community tier | Path | Weapon pairing | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| T0 baseline | Bamboocut–Dust | Everspring Umbrella + Unfettered Rope Dart | Ranged raid damage and flexible ranged pressure |
| T0 baseline | Bellstrike–Umbra | Strategic Sword + Heavenquaker Spear | Strong overall damage, bleeding, and damage-over-time setups |
| T1 baseline | Bamboocut–Wind | Infernal Twinblades + Mortal Rope Dart | Mobile melee damage and dodge-focused play |
| T1 baseline | Bellstrike–Splendor | Nameless Sword + Nameless Spear | General PvE and improved group clearing |
| T1 baseline | Stonesplit–Might | Thundercry Blade + Stormbreaker Spear | Physical damage and bruiser-style combat |
| T1 baseline | Stonesplit–Strength | Snowparting Blade + Phalanxbane Blade | Critical-focused melee damage |
| T1 baseline | Silkbind–Deluge | Soulshade Umbrella + Panacea Fan | Healing and support-oriented play |
| T2 baseline | Silkbind–Jade | Vernal Umbrella + Inkwell Fan | Control, ranged attacks, and utility |
The ranking above comes from the latest located community tier guide, which predates Version 2.0. Do not read it as proof that Bamboocut–Dust is unconditionally the best build or that dual blades are automatically the highest-DPS melee option. Performance depends on encounter mechanics, gear, player skill, role requirements, and subsequent balance changes.
Every current Path explained
Bellstrike–Umbra: Strategic Sword + Heavenquaker Spear
This is the safest recommendation if you want a damage-oriented build with strong overall performance and a meaningful damage-over-time component. Its key tools are bleeding, High Bleeding, Soul-Shaken, and vulnerability effects.
Version 2.0 made Strategic Sword Bleeding and High Bleeding deal baseline Qi damage. Heavenquaker Spear’s Soul-Shaken duration increased from 15 to 18 seconds. The full damage-over-time vulnerability effect now requires the active damage source to be Strategic Sword or Heavenquaker Spear, making correct weapon usage more important.
Sword Horizon can also extend active damage-over-time effects by 10 seconds when its guaranteed-Affinity High Bleeding hits a non-player unit, subject to a 16-second cap. This is a strong choice for players who want sustained PvE damage rather than a purely burst-oriented rotation.

Bellstrike–Splendor: Nameless Sword + Nameless Spear
Bellstrike–Splendor is a straightforward general-purpose pairing built around Nameless Sword and Nameless Spear. Version 2.0 removed Nameless Sword’s multi-target Sword Energy damage falloff against non-player units, improving group clearing. Several Nameless Sword skills were also smoothed for high-latency Online Mode Boss and Boss Dummy play.
This Path is a good fit if you want reliable PvE performance without building entirely around a complicated damage-over-time window.
Recommended Free Tools
Bamboocut–Dust: Everspring Umbrella + Unfettered Rope Dart
Bamboocut–Dust was ranked T0 for ranged raid damage in the latest pre-2.0 snapshot. It is the best starting point for players who want to attack from range and contribute sustained damage without treating the community ranking as an absolute verdict.
Version 2.0 increased Everspring Umbrella’s Dreamwrought Bubbles damage against non-player units by 20%. Phantom Rally’s Phantom Umbrellas can now trigger Resonance Damage, while repeated Perfect Catches can provide an instantly cast Dreamwrought Bubbles charge, stacking up to four times.
Bamboocut–Wind: Infernal Twinblades + Mortal Rope Dart
This is the mobile dual-blade and rope-dart option. It rewards movement, timing, and effective use of Perfect Dodge rather than standing in one place and repeating a fixed attack string.
Version 2.0 increased the duration benefit from Infernal Twinblades’ Perfect Dodge Enhancement from 20% to 40%. Echoes of Oblivion now lets Light Attacks ignore 10% of the target’s Physical Defense and 10 points of Bamboocut Resistance.

The Path is less forgiving if you lose your stored Light Attack sequence: the stored hit count lasts only three seconds and is cleared immediately when switching weapons. A new status icon shows the stored count. Addled Mind can now be continuously Deflected a maximum of three times, down from six, changing how safely that attack can be handled.
Silkbind–Deluge: Soulshade Umbrella + Panacea Fan
Silkbind–Deluge is the support-oriented choice, particularly for players who want healing and team utility. Its Path challenges can include multiplayer-specific requirements, so do not assume every objective is designed for solo play.
When Panacea Fan and Soulshade Umbrella are equipped together, the Panacea Fan Mystic Skill damage-boost effect guarantees that Abrasion will not trigger; Abrasion is converted to normal damage. This makes the intended pairing more consistent.
Silkbind–Jade: Vernal Umbrella + Inkwell Fan
Silkbind–Jade combines Vernal Umbrella and Inkwell Fan. The pre-2.0 community snapshot placed it in PvE T2 even after May 2026 PvE buffs, but Version 2.0 changed its Tier 96 gear affixes and challenge behavior.
Vernal Umbrella’s Special Skill and Charged Skill damage affixes were merged into Vernal Umbrella Frequent Ballistic DMG Boost. The Path also gained a separate Vernal Umbrella Light/Heavy Attack & Varied Combo DMG Boost affix. These changes make the gearing labels more coherent, but they do not by themselves establish a new universal tier ranking.
Stonesplit–Might: Thundercry Blade + Stormbreaker Spear
Stonesplit–Might is the physical-damage pairing. Thundercry Blade’s conversion of Max HP into Max Physical Attack now has a cap that scales with Martial Arts Breakthrough level instead of using a fixed 120-point cap.

Its former Critical Rate UP talent was renamed Physical Attack UP and now grants Max Physical Attack rather than Critical Rate. Version 2.0 also clarified Stormbreaker Spear’s Storm Roar description: its Drumbeat effect and self-damage reduction require Thundercry Blade to be equipped simultaneously. This clarified an existing requirement rather than adding a new one.
Stonesplit–Strength: Snowparting Blade + Phalanxbane Blade
This is the critical-focused Stonesplit pairing. Steadfast Devotion’s guaranteed-critical threshold increased from 70% to 75% Final Effective Critical Rate, so the build has a higher consistency requirement before its guaranteed-critical effect activates.
Version 2.0 also fixed the Martial Art Mastery III trial challenge for Stonesplit–Strength, which previously could not be completed.
Which Path should you choose?
- Choose Bellstrike–Umbra if you want a powerful, damage-focused build with bleeding and damage-over-time management.
- Choose Bamboocut–Dust if ranged raid damage is your priority.
- Choose Bellstrike–Splendor if you want broadly useful PvE group clearing and a comparatively direct playstyle.
- Choose Bamboocut–Wind if you enjoy mobile melee combat, dodging, and rope-dart transitions.
- Choose Silkbind–Deluge if you want healing and multiplayer support.
- Choose Stonesplit–Might for physical-attack scaling and bruiser-style play.
- Choose Stonesplit–Strength if you want to build around critical-rate thresholds.
- Choose Silkbind–Jade for its umbrella-and-fan toolkit, control, and utility rather than because an old tier list calls it top-tier damage.
Because weapons are not permanent class choices, you can change direction later. Treat your first choice as a starting playstyle, not an irreversible commitment.

Open the challenge list through Develop → Path Guide → Paths Challenges → All path challenges.
To enter Path Trial, go to Wandering Paths → Taiping Masoleum → Path trial. Player reports state that the selected Path’s first clear awards 19 gold Inner Ways and 10 purple Inner Ways, and that trials for other Paths can also be completed for additional rewards. Because these reward details are player-reported rather than specified in the official patch notes, check the current in-game display before planning around exact quantities.

Path challenge troubleshooting
“3/3” or “5/5” objectives
These counters mean the action must be completed three or five times. One successful run is not enough.
The objective is not counting
Check that both weapons belonging to the Path are equipped. A challenge requiring both weapons can fail if you use only one, including in a trial configuration that supplies only one weapon.
Silkbind–Deluge multiplayer objectives
Objectives mentioning Floating Grace or Endless Cloud specify a multiplayer boss. They are not ordinary solo-boss objectives. The seasonal objective to complete any Hero’s Realm without being defeated unlocks at level 51.

Silkbind–Jade Combo objective
The Inner Way objective involving the Combo effect from Ninefold Umbrella can behave incorrectly against bosses with multiple phases. A reported workaround is to use Snake Doctor.
Stale translated challenge lists
Older translated challenge text has differed from the global client. The in-game text was later reported as fixed, so use the current objective shown in your client rather than relying on an old third-party list.
Returning to a previous build
Version 2.0 fixed an issue that could prevent players from switching back to their original Martial Art build after testing Bamboocut–Kite in the New Armament Drill event.
Version 2.0 text and label corrections
Some apparent changes are wording corrections rather than balance changes. Nameless Sword’s Sword Energy decay, Qi Struggle Enhancement, and Sword Horizon descriptions were corrected; the patch notes state that these were display issues and did not change actual skill performance.
Silkbind–Jade Attunement labels were also corrected. “Frequent Projectile DMG Boost” and “Light/Heavy and Follow-up Attack Damage Boost” were corrected to “Charged Skill Damage Boost” and “Special Skill Damage Boost,” respectively.
