To complete The Art of Skill Theft in Where Winds Meet, disguise yourself as Muddle to enter the Nine Mortal Ways Martial Hall, get the core disciple token from Tiancai, then take the Rope Dart from Elder Tian and finish the Skill Theft challenge. The last step is a conversation with the Mysterious Elder in the backyard.
Where to start The Art of Skill Theft
Travel to the Nine Mortal Ways Martial Hall near South Gate Avenue in Kaifeng City. Game8 places it west of the avenue and reports that the quest unlocks when you reach the location; its listed prerequisite is the Disguise: Veil of Love skill. Guide instructions and NPC names can vary, so use the current quest objective and on-screen prompts if they differ.

How to get into the martial hall
- Try the main entrance. Speak with Lu Youqi, the guard, and note that you cannot enter through the gate yet.
- Ask the Mysterious Elder nearby. He points you toward using a disguise to get inside.
- Draw Muddle’s portrait. Find Muddle sitting nearby and use the portrait interaction. If you are unsure how to draw it, interact with Muddle directly and follow the portrait controls shown on screen.
- Get Muddle’s disguise from Wuyan. Visit Wuyan at the Fairgrounds and choose Muddle from the portrait options. Game8 reports that Wuyan’s Makeup Level must be 2, which it says is reached by completing at least two Disguise Commissions.
- Return to the hall in disguise. Once inside, speak with Pan Shui in the inner courtyard. He asks for a core disciple token.
How to get the core disciple token
Find Tiancai in the small house near the hall. Use Wind Sense to inspect him, then select the core disciple token from his inventory. Game8’s guide says to choose “Ask Nicely,” but other guide descriptions differ on the interaction context. Follow the prompt presented in your current game; the shared progression step is to use Wind Sense on Tiancai and acquire the token.
How to complete the Skill Theft challenge
- Return to the hall and find Elder Tian. Speak with him to obtain the Rope Dart before starting the challenge.
- Complete the Skill Theft minigame. A GamesRecon guide describes a timed ring cue: act when the cue flashes gold and ignore the gray cue. Use the timing shown in your game if the current version presents a different prompt.
- Open the nearby treasure chests. Game8 recommends opening two chests in the area before leaving for the final objective.
Guides disagree on the name of the skill unlocked by this sequence: Game8 calls it Mortal Rope Dart, while NerdsChalk uses Rodent Rampage. Check the skill name shown in your current game interface rather than relying on either guide label.

How to finish the quest
After the challenge, take the door on the right side near Elder Tian to reach the backyard and speak with the Mysterious Elder. NerdsChalk identifies this character as Ni Laoshan. Complete that conversation to wrap up the quest; if you have already done the skill theft but have not received completion, check the backyard for the elder and finish the dialogue.
