The fix depends on whether the pack is missing from your account, waiting to download, stuck during installation, or installed but not loaded in your game. On PC or Mac, check the EA app’s add-ons list; on console, use the platform’s download history or notifications. If the pack is installed but missing from a save, check Pack Selection before trying to download it again.
First, identify where the installation is failing
Check which platform you use and which of these states describes the pack:
- Not listed as owned: check the account or purchase route.
- Owned but not installed: start its download from the platform’s game or add-ons area.
- Downloading or installing, but stuck or failing: troubleshoot the app or console download.
- Installed but missing in a save: check whether the pack is loaded in Pack Selection.
These states need different fixes; reinstalling the game will not resolve an account that does not own the pack.
Install or check a pack in the EA app on PC or Mac
- Install and update the base game. EA says The Sims 4 base game must be installed and updated before you manage its packs.
- Check the account and add-on status. Sign in to the EA Account used to buy or redeem the pack. In the EA app, open Library, select The Sims 4, and open its add-ons or Manage add-ons area. EA distinguishes owned add-ons that are not installed from those already installed.
- Download an owned pack. If the pack is listed as owned but not installed, select its Download icon. EA says digital packs should install automatically after purchase, but an owned pack can also be downloaded manually. See EA’s guide to installing and managing Sims 4 packs.
- Redeem a retailer code if necessary. If you bought a code outside the EA app, redeem it to the correct EA Account before downloading the pack. A purchase tied to another account will not appear as owned on the account you are currently using.
The EA app replaced Origin for PC and Mac. EA’s pack guide notes that Mac users need macOS Catalina or later to run the EA app.

If the EA app download is stuck or fails
Try these checks if the pack is owned but the EA app cannot download or install it:
- Clear the app cache: in the EA app, choose Help > App Recovery > Clear Cache.
- Check the connection and EA services. A connection or service issue can interrupt downloads; retry when the connection is stable and the service is available.
- Check the drive format if a PC download stops at exactly 4 GB. EA identifies FAT32 as a possible cause because that format cannot handle files larger than 4 GB. This clue applies to that specific symptom; it does not establish the cause of every stalled download.
- For other installation failures, consult EA’s documented app and permissions steps. EA’s troubleshooting guide covers reinstalling the EA app and checking Windows access permissions. Install a pack on Xbox or PlayStation
EA says digital console copies of The Sims 4 should install after downloading. If a pack or game download does not proceed to installation, use the console’s download list:

EA notes that PlayStation steps can vary across newer interfaces and store-based add-on downloads, so the PS4 menu labels may not match every PS5 interface. For current console-specific instructions, see EA’s guide to getting started with The Sims 4 on console.
If a console installation freezes or fails
EA says a game file may have been corrupted during a failed download. Remove files that were installed as part of the failed attempt, download and install again, then restart the game or console.

If the pack is installed but missing in gameplay
A pack can be installed without being loaded into a particular game. In The Sims 4, check Pack Selection and confirm the pack is selected. You can also check the in-game Marketplace’s My Collection and Manage Storage areas for relevant content. EA explains that packs not selected in Pack Selection are unloaded, so their pack-specific content will not appear in the current game experience.
If a save reports that content is missing, do not proceed as though the pack’s items are available: EA warns that items from an unloaded pack may be unavailable in that save. Use the missing-content flow to reload the pack if that option is offered.

If the pack is not listed as owned
Check that you are signed in to the EA Account used for the purchase and that any product code from a retailer was redeemed to that account. EA’s guidance also notes that DLC is managed from the relevant game’s add-ons area and that an expansion requires ownership of the base game. If the account and add-on checks do not show the entitlement, contact EA Support about missing games or DLC. Clearing the cache or reinstalling the app cannot be assumed to restore a pack that is not attached to your account.
If you mean a Marketplace item or a mod
Official packs, Marketplace content, and community-made Mods are different kinds of content. Marketplace purchases may require a separate download, and delivery can depend on platform and purchase route; see EA’s Sims 4 Marketplace guide. Mods follow a separate installation and support path, so a pack download fix will not address a mod-folder issue.
