Rank is a position within a weekly field of players, so it moves whenever other players earn points and pass you. Electronic Arts’ own Help documentation says so directly: “Your Rank can change even when you’re not playing.”
Rank is a position, not a personal balance
Your Battle Points are a running total for the week. Your rank is where that total sits against everyone else’s in the same weekly competition. EA’s Help page for Squad Battles describes ranks as brackets that represent a percentage of players, so your standing depends on the field as well as on your score.

That means two things can happen at once. Your points stay exactly the same while your rank drops, because other players have moved above you. The leaderboard refreshes approximately every five minutes, according to the same Help page, so these shifts can show up while you are at the menu.
Rank movement versus missing points
Readers often treat any drop as a sign that points were taken away. Those are separate situations, and they have different causes and fixes.

What Battle Points are based on
Battle Points come only from matches in the weekly competition. According to EA, the points you earn depend on whether you win or lose and on the difficulty you selected. Winning on a harder difficulty is worth more than winning on an easier one, and a loss still contributes points if the match is completed.
Why a match can add zero points
A match can be played and still leave your total unchanged. EA’s documentation lists three cases where no points are added:
- Ending a match early. The match does not finish, so it produces no result to score.
- Skipping a match through a squad refresh. The skipped match gives no points.
- Refreshing before you have finished all available matches. The unplayed matches still count toward the weekly competition, and EA states that skipped matches cannot be restored.
If your rank dropped after you refreshed a squad, the refresh is the first thing to check. The loss of those matches is permanent for that week.

The weekly match limit depends on the edition
Only a set number of matches count toward your weekly score. EA’s FC 26 launch update states that up to 18 matches per week count toward the weekly points total, up from 14 in FC 25. Matches beyond that allotment can still award Coins and progress objectives, but they do not change your weekly score or your rank.

Because this limit changes between editions, confirm the active rules in the Squad Battles mode itself before assuming a number.
A step-by-step check when your rank drops
- Note your Battle Points total and your current rank, then wait about five minutes. If your rank has moved but your total has not, other players have overtaken you.
- Review the matches you played this week. Count only the ones you completed; any match you quit early added nothing.
- Check whether you used a squad refresh before finishing your available matches. Skipped matches cannot be restored.
- Count how many matches have already contributed to this week’s score. If you have reached the weekly limit for your edition, later matches will not raise your points.
- If none of these explain the change, compare your result against the match history in the mode before concluding that points were lost.
Leaderboards by platform
According to EA’s Help page, the Xbox and PlayStation leaderboards are shared even if you have not opted into cross-play. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 have separate leaderboards. Platform rules can change, so verify them in the game if your standing depends on which leaderboard you compete on.

What is not guaranteed
EA does not publish fixed point thresholds for each rank. The official explanation describes percentage-based ranks within a changing field, so a particular total will not reliably hold a particular position through the week. Treat your rank as a snapshot that can move with everyone else’s results.
