Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) carries a PEGI 16 rating on the UK Xbox store listing, which is where the “16” in the question comes from. The official PEGI listing shows only a Violence descriptor and does not explain which scenes or criteria led to that age rating. In the United States, the ESRB rates the game Teen with Violence, and its summary describes the combat behind that label. The two ratings come from different systems, so they are not competing answers to the same question.
Which rating applies where

The publisher page is useful context, but it is not a rating board. Only the PEGI and ESRB entries are formal classifications, and they should be cited by their own names rather than treated as one scale.
What the violence in the game involves
The ESRB summary is the most detailed official description available for this release. It lists Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One as platforms and describes the game as a first- and third-person shooter in which players fight soldiers, robots, and creatures across several worlds. The combat elements it records are:

Those are general category possibilities, not a checklist of what appears in this game; the game-specific information is the summary above.
Why PEGI 16 and ESRB Teen are not in conflict
PEGI and the ESRB use different age bands and different assessment processes, so their labels cannot be compared number for number. PEGI 16 means the game is rated suitable for players aged 16 and over in the territories where PEGI applies, including the UK. The ESRB’s Teen rating is aimed at players 13 and up in the United States. A player in the UK and a player in the US are therefore seeing two valid classifications from two different bodies, and the gap between 13 and 16 does not mean either rating is an error.

What the PEGI listing does and does not explain
The UK Xbox listing confirms the PEGI 16 rating and the Violence descriptor. It does not publish the assessment report, a scene-by-scene breakdown, or the specific criteria that placed the game at 16. Any article that names one particular scene as the reason for the PEGI 16 rating is going beyond what the listing states. The most that can be said from the official PEGI information is that violence is the recorded reason for the descriptor; the ESRB summary above indicates what that violence looks like in practice.
Make sure you are rating the 2017 game
The title can be confused with the earlier Star Wars Battlefront II from 2005. Rating information applies to a specific release, so check the year and platform before relying on any age label. The rating details in this article refer to the 2017 game only.

How to check the rating for your region
- Search for “Star Wars Battlefront II” on the ESRB website and confirm the entry is the 2017 release and lists the platform you care about.
- Open the store listing for your region (for example, the Xbox Store page for the UK) and read the rating section, which shows the PEGI or other local rating and its descriptors.
- Compare the publisher’s own “Rated” label only as supporting information, since it does not come from a rating board.
- If the regional rating and the platform edition do not match what you see, treat the store page for your region as the authority, because ratings are assigned per territory and can be updated.
The PEGI and ESRB labels describe the game’s age suitability in their own territories. They do not tell you which scene triggered the rating in the UK, so for that level of detail the official PEGI assessment would need to be published, and it has not been in the listing checked here.
