WickedWhims usually fails to appear or function in The Sims 4 for one of five reasons: the game disabled mods after an update, the script file sits in the wrong folder or too deep inside it, script mods are switched off, the installed copy does not match the current game patch, or another mod is interfering. Work through those in that order, starting with the game version, because most of the fixes depend on knowing which build you are running.
Start with your game version and platform
Look at the Sims 4 version number in the lower-left corner of the main menu and write it down. Then compare it with the current release information published by the WickedWhims creator. That creator page is the only reliable statement of which game builds a given WickedWhims release supports, so treat it as the reference point for every later step.
Electronic Arts does not screen or support mods, and its support article on mods and game updates puts the risk plainly: “Since we don’t screen or support any Mods, it’s possible a Mod that didn’t cause any issues for players before could cause them after an update.” (Electronic Arts Help, “The Sims 4: Mods, game updates, and error codes.”) A mod that worked last month can therefore stop working after a patch even if you changed nothing.
Platform matters too. Electronic Arts states that mods are available only for PC and Mac players and cannot be downloaded on PlayStation or Xbox (Electronic Arts Help, “How to install Mods in The Sims 4”). If you play on a console, WickedWhims cannot be installed, and the steps below do not apply.

An older WickedWhims release notice from November 2024 (build v182d) listed the game builds it supported at that time. It is a historical record. It does not show that the mod works on the patch you run in October 2026, so do not match your version against that build number.
Confirm the files are in the right place
Most “script missing” and “menu not showing” problems come from file placement. Check these in order:
- Open the Documents folder of the Windows or Mac user account that runs the game, then open Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. If the Mods folder does not exist, launch the game once and close it so the folder is created.
- Confirm the WickedWhims download was extracted. The game cannot read files that are still inside a ZIP archive.
- Confirm the .ts4script file and its companion .package files sit directly in the Mods folder or in one subfolder. WickedCC’s installation instructions state that a script file nested more than one subfolder deep will not load.
- Delete any older duplicate copy of WickedWhims files. Leaving an outdated copy beside the current one can produce the same symptoms as a broken install.
- Do not modify, move, or delete Resource.cfg. Editing it is a common cause of problems that have nothing to do with the mod itself.
If your Documents folder is redirected into a cloud sync service such as OneDrive, check the path carefully. WickedCC notes that OneDrive can cause folder issues. Treat that as a possible cause to rule out, not a guaranteed one.

Enable the mod settings and restart
Script mods are disabled by default in some setups, and major game patches can switch these options back off. After installing or after any patch, follow these steps:

- Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Enable Script Mods Allowed.
- Select Apply Changes, then fully close and restart the game. Changing the settings without restarting is not enough.
After the restart, check whether WickedWhims appears in the game. If it still does not, move on to the update and error-code sections rather than repeating the same steps.
After a game update
Electronic Arts says it disables mods after updates to limit gameplay problems, and a mod creator may need time before a compatible release is available. When a mod stops working after a patch, use this sequence from Electronic Arts’ guidance:

- Launch the game with mods disabled to confirm the base game runs normally.
- Exit without saving before you re-enable mods. Saving while custom content is disabled can remove that content from your save file.
- Check the creator’s compatibility instructions for the current game version.
- Enable mods in Game Options, restart, and test the feature you rely on.
Full reinstallation of the mod is sometimes necessary after an update. Dependent mods that rely on WickedWhims may also need their own updates, so a current WickedWhims release does not automatically make every add-on compatible. The 2024 release notice made the same general point about dependent mods.
Read error codes without overdiagnosing
Electronic Arts associates specific error codes with broad categories of problems. A code tells you what kind of problem to look for, not which mod caused it.

An error message on its own does not prove that WickedWhims is responsible. Confirm the cause with the conflict test before you reinstall the mod or change anything else.

Isolate conflicts with the 50/50 method
If the file placement, settings, and version all look correct, a conflict with another mod is the likely cause. Electronic Arts recommends a batch-and-halve method, which it calls the “50/50 method”:
- Move all mods out of the Mods folder into a backup folder outside it, then launch the game to confirm the base game works without them.
- Return mods in batches. Launch and test after each batch.
- When the problem returns, return only half of that batch and test again.
- Keep halving the batch that reproduces the issue until a single mod is identified.
Electronic Arts advises testing gameplay mods before custom content, because gameplay mods are more likely to cause problems. A conflict may involve another gameplay mod or a custom content file rather than WickedWhims itself, so do not stop once WickedWhims is working unless the rest of the batch is also clean.

- Did the game update recently?
- Does the installed mod release explicitly support the game version shown on the main menu?
- Is the script file within the permitted folder depth?
- Are both Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed enabled after a restart?
- Does the problem disappear when other gameplay mods are removed?
When to contact the mod creator
If the version, placement, settings, and conflict test all check out and the problem persists, report it to the WickedWhims creator. Electronic Arts recommends including the current game version in that report. Also include the error codes you saw, the list of mods you had installed, and the steps you already tried. That information lets the creator reproduce the problem instead of asking you to repeat the same checks.
Do not download replacement files from unofficial mirrors. Electronic Arts advises using trusted sources and notes that it does not screen or endorse specific mods, so a copy from an unknown site is an unverified file that can introduce new problems.
