In August 2020, Wildlife Studios, the São Paulo-based maker of casual mobile games, announced a $120 million Series B led by Vulcan Capital, with participation from Human Capital. The round reportedly valued the company at nearly $3 billion, more than double the $1.3 billion valuation it carried after a $60 million round in December 2019.
What the 2020 round was
The Series B was Wildlife’s second outside raise in roughly eight months. Coverage from GamesBeat, PocketGamer.biz, LAVCA and Crunchbase News in 2020 reported the same core terms, all drawn from the company’s own announcement. The exact announcement day in August 2020 is not confirmed in the coverage available to this article, so the month is the most precise date that can be given.
How the two rounds compare
| Item | December 2019 round | August 2020 Series B |
|---|---|---|
| Amount raised | $60 million | $120 million |
| Reported valuation | $1.3 billion | Nearly $3 billion |
| Lead investor | Not stated in the 2020 coverage reviewed | Vulcan Capital, with participation from Human Capital |
| Headcount reported | About 500 employees | More than 700 employees |
The step-up from $1.3 billion to nearly $3 billion is roughly 2.3 times, which is what “more than double” means here. Both valuations are as reported in 2020 coverage, not audited figures.
Total funding and what the money is for
Wildlife’s company release, as cited in 2020 coverage, put total financing at about $250 million since the company was founded in 2011. The brothers Victor and Arthur Lazarte started the business in São Paulo.

According to the reporting, CEO Victor Lazarte said Wildlife would not use the money to buy studios. Instead, the company planned to keep creating and promoting its own games with its own resources, and to invest up to $200 million over the following two years in becoming a destination for top game designers. That figure is a planned investment as described in 2020 coverage, not a committed spending schedule.
The business behind the valuation
Wildlife is built around casual mobile games. Coverage in 2020 said the company had released more than 60 games, with about a half-dozen considered successes. Titles named in that coverage include Zooba, Tennis Clash and Castle Crush. The company also said its full library reached 100 million monthly active users in 2020. That is a company-reported figure for the whole portfolio at that time, not a per-title number.

The coverage reviewed for this article does not establish how these games earn revenue, so this piece does not describe their monetization model.
What this funding does and does not tell you
- It shows that outside investors valued a portfolio-based casual games company at close to $3 billion in 2020, at a time when the company was growing its headcount past 700.
- It does not show how profitable the company was, and the 2020 reporting did not publish revenue or profit figures.
- It does not describe the company’s current size, valuation, ownership or product lineup. This article covers the 2020 round as reported at the time; later funding, layoffs or ownership changes are outside its scope.
