As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo has not announced Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. The game is not in Nintendo’s official announcements for either console, and no release date has been given. Nintendo’s Nintendo 64 library on Switch is growing, but that growth does not make this title a confirmed addition. If you want to play Diddy Kong Racing today, the only route that works is original Nintendo 64 hardware with the cartridge.
What Nintendo has and has not announced
Nintendo’s official pages and its published launch schedule are the reference points here. Each one answers a different part of the question.
The May 2026 primary product schedule
Nintendo’s May 2026 primary product schedule lists announced software for Switch and Switch 2. Diddy Kong Racing does not appear in it. Nintendo notes that titles and launch dates may change, so the schedule is a snapshot of what has been announced, not a guarantee about what will be.
Nintendo’s June 3, 2026 Nintendo 64 announcement
On June 3, 2026, Nintendo published a post presenting Donkey Kong 64 as the latest addition to the Nintendo 64 Nintendo Classics library. That is the most recent N64 title Nintendo has named. The post does not mention Diddy Kong Racing, so it tells you nothing about whether that game is next. Donkey Kong 64 is a separate game, even though both titles come from the same era of Nintendo 64 releases.

Nintendo Support’s Nintendo Classics overview
Nintendo Support’s Nintendo Classics overview says the libraries “will continue to grow.” Its FAQ adds: “There is no set schedule for new releases, but each collection will continue to grow.” The statement is an official company line with no individual spokesperson named. Read it as a description of how the service works, not as a hint about any particular title.
How Nintendo 64 games reach Switch
Nintendo 64 games on Switch come through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which includes access to the Nintendo 64 Nintendo Classics library. Subscription access covers the games Nintendo has added to that library, and only those. Being a subscriber does not mean every Nintendo 64 game is available, and Expansion Pack membership does not currently include Diddy Kong Racing.
Nintendo has not published a release cadence for new additions. You can therefore neither count on the next addition nor rule out a future one.
Playing Diddy Kong Racing today
The original game is a Nintendo 64 title, first released for that console in 1997. Its cartridge works only on compatible Nintendo 64 hardware. It does not play on Switch or Switch 2, and it should not be presented as a Switch option.

The options compare as follows:
| Option | Platform it runs on | Is Diddy Kong Racing available? | How access works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (Nintendo 64 Nintendo Classics) | Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 (subscription service) | No. Not announced as of October 8, 2026 | Subscription; access limited to titles Nintendo has added to the library |
| Original Nintendo 64 Diddy Kong Racing cartridge | Compatible Nintendo 64 hardware only | Yes, on that hardware | Requires owning the console and a cartridge; availability and condition vary on the secondary market, and pricing is not stated here |
If you already own a Nintendo 64 and a copy of the cartridge, you can play the game now. If you do not, the cartridge is the only current route, and you should check the condition and seller of any copy before buying.
What would count as an announcement
Treat the following as the signals to watch. An announcement would appear on Nintendo’s official channels, such as its Nintendo Support pages or its published announcements, with a title, a platform, and a date or date range. Fan interest, rumors, or a new N64 addition on its own do not confirm that Diddy Kong Racing is coming.

What this status does and does not establish
This answer reflects Nintendo’s official material as of October 8, 2026. It establishes how the Switch Online Nintendo 64 library works, that no fixed schedule has been published, that Donkey Kong 64 was added on June 3, 2026, and that Diddy Kong Racing is absent from the May 2026 announced software schedule. It cannot reveal Nintendo’s internal plans, and it cannot prove that the game will never arrive on Switch. Check Nintendo’s announcements again before relying on this status, because library contents and release plans can change.
No official figure on demand or the likelihood of a release has been published, so any prediction about a Switch release would be speculation.
