Ubisoft announced on July 16, 2025, that Charlie Guillemot, son of co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot, was returning to the company and had been appointed co-CEO of a new subsidiary with Christophe Derennes. Ubisoft said the subsidiary would focus on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
What Charlie Guillemot’s Ubisoft appointment means
Ubisoft said Charlie had returned to the company in 2025 to join its transformation committee. The July 2025 announcement then named him and Christophe Derennes co-CEOs of a new subsidiary focused on three of Ubisoft’s major game franchises. The appointment and remit described below are Ubisoft’s account of the arrangement, not an independently verified organization chart.
Ubisoft assigned Charlie responsibility for the brands’ vision, direction, content development, and marketing. He described the division of work this way: “In a nutshell, I’ll be in charge of the ‘what’ — I will pilot the three brands, which includes their vision, direction, content development, and marketing.” Ubisoft’s announcement, July 16, 2025.
Which franchises are in the new subsidiary?
- Assassin’s Creed
- Far Cry
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
Ubisoft identified these three brands as the subsidiary’s focus. Its announcement described Charlie’s role as guiding their creative and market direction; it did not announce a specific game, release date, platform, or edition.

How does Christophe Derennes’ role differ?
Ubisoft presented the co-CEOs’ responsibilities as complementary. Charlie was to lead the “what” for the three brands, while Derennes brought operational and production leadership. The company described Derennes’ experience as the operational side of the arrangement.
What is Charlie Guillemot’s background at Ubisoft?
Ubisoft says Charlie began his gaming career at Owlient in 2014. The company describes Owlient as an acquired studio that expanded from browser-based free-to-play games into mobile under his leadership. Ubisoft also says he returned in 2025 to join its internal transformation committee before taking the co-CEO role announced that July.

In the same announcement, Charlie said: “In the lead-up to Ubisoft’s 40th anniversary, Yves [Guillemot] has placed his trust in us to drive change while building on solid foundations.”
Is Charlie Guillemot Ubisoft’s CEO?
No. Ubisoft’s leadership page lists Yves Guillemot as co-founder and chief executive officer. The role announced for Charlie in July 2025 was co-CEO of the new subsidiary, not CEO of Ubisoft as a whole. The cited appointment is dated July 16, 2025; the available leadership listing does not establish whether Charlie still holds that subsidiary title today.

How does the appointment fit Ubisoft’s reorganization?
Ubisoft’s FY2025–26 reporting describes a reorganization built around autonomous Creative Houses. In that report, Ubisoft said it had 16,590 employees at the end of March 2026 and had brought back 155 former Ubisoft top talents during the fiscal year. These are company-reported figures for that period, rather than a measure of the new subsidiary’s staffing.
Ubisoft’s announcement establishes the appointment and the company’s stated rationale; it does not independently assess how the selection was made. The family relationship alone does not establish either qualification or impropriety.
